A visit to the Elizabethan Chavenage House near Tetbury
Our first destination today will be the small town of Tetbury, where there will be time to find lunch. In the afternoon we drive to Chavenage, which is a wonderful Elizabethan
house of mellow grey Cotswold stone and tiles. The approach to the house is virtually as it was left by Edward Stephens in 1576. We have arranged for a private guided tour of the house, usually led by a member of the Lowsley-Williams family, the current owners. The house is home to many interesting rooms housing tapestries, fine furniture, pictures and relics of the Cromwellian period. In more recent times the house has been used as a location in many TV and film productions most recently as Trenwith House in Poldark. Before we leave for home we have arranaged for you to be served a Cotswolds Tea of vicarage style mixed sandwiches, home made cakes, freshly baked scone with cream and jam accompanied by choice of teas or coffee (with complimentary refills).
