4 Rivers Cruise with CroisiEurope

The Neckar, Rhine, Moselle and Sarre Valleys

 

We are pleased to offer another super cruise with international river cruise operator CroisiEurope. They have a reputation for high quality ships with smart, efficient and friendly crews, comfortable ensuite accommodation and delicious food. Departing from Strasbourg, you will cruise along four rivers, passing charming villages to discover the beauty of the Rhine Valley, the enchanting Neckar, the picturesque Moselle and the natural landscapes of the Saar. Meals on board feature fine French cuisine, with breakfast, lunch and dinner, and most drinks included. A programme of optional visits includes:

 

*       Heidelberg, the most romantic city in Germany

 

*       Trier and its Roman ruins

 

*       Luxembourg, capital of the Grand Duchy

 

*       The underground wine cellars of Remich

 

OPTIONAL SHORE EXCURSIONS

 

We find that some passengers are very happy to remain on board ship throughout the duration of the cruise, whilst others like to book for one or more of the optional excursions. Therefore, we do not include the cost of excursions in the holiday price, allowing you complete flexibility. Nearer the departure date, we will send you a list of the available excursions with prices and invite you to book if you wish.

 

Please note that if a suitable Eurotunnel crossing is not available we will use the ferry for our Channel crossing

Day 1 - Friday

An early taxi pick-up from your home to the coach, to join your drivers and fellow passengers. Tea/coffee will be served during the journey to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel* crossing. From Calais we will drive to the Mercure Hotel in Saarbrucken for an overnight stay, with dinner and breakfast included.

day 2 - Saturday

We drive to the Vosges region of France for a visit to the Lalique Museum. In 1921 René Lalique opened his factory in Wingen-sur-Moder, creating fabulous Art Nouveau jewellery. He made pieces featuring enamel, horn, ivory, semi-precious stones and crystal for companies around the world, and the fascinating museum houses some of his finest works. Our next stop is in Strasbourg, capital of the Alsace, with its Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame. After a little time to explore, we will board our ship moored on the Rhine. Once settled into your cabin, meet the crew over a welcome cocktail, followed by dinner and an evening of entertainment.

day 3 - Sunday

MANNHEIM - HEIDELBERG - RÜDESHEIM
We'll arrive in Mannheim early in the morning. This will be our starting point for an optional excursion to Heidelberg. Lunch is served on board, before an afternoon cruising along the Neckar and Rhine Rivers towards Rüdesheim, where we arrive this evening. After dinner you may like to take a stroll through the famous Drosselgasse with its lively cafés, bars, and music.

Day 4 - Monday

RÜDESHEIM - COCHEM

RÜDESHEIM - COCHEM
This morning there will be an optional tour of the local vineyards on a tourist train, followed by a wine tasting. We'll then head to Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet. This collection of musical instruments ranges from tiny, delicate music boxes to an enormous orchestrion. After lunch we cruise up the Rhine Valley past the fabled Lorelei Rock. Castles and vineyards dot the countryside known for its legendary German royalty. At Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, we leave the Rhine for the Moselle River and cruise past pretty winemaking villages to Cochem.

day 5 - Tuesday

COCHEM - TRIER

COCHEM - TRIER
This morning an optional guided tour of Cochem Castle which sits on a mighty crag over the Moselle. After being destroyed by the French in the 17th century, it was rebuilt from scratch in a Neo-Gothic style by a local German businessman. Later, enjoy some free time in the town to explore the narrow, winding streets with their half-timbered houses. Return to the ship for lunch, and spend the afternoon cruising further along the Moselle to Trier.

Day 6 - Wednesday

TRIER - SAARBURG - REMICH
Today you can join an optional guided tour of Trier, a city known for its well-preserved Roman and medieval buildings, and impressive churches. We'll have a look at the amphitheatre, the imperial baths, the Roman basilica, and the Porta Nigra, one of Europe's best-preserved Roman city gates. Rejoin Lafayette in Saarburg and spend this afternoon cruising along the Sarre and Moselle towards Remich.

Day 7 - Thursday

REMICH & OPTIONAL TOUR OF LUXEMBOURG
The Lafayette remains moored in Remich today. The town, known as 'The Pearl of the Moselle', is surrounded by vineyards and forests. This morning we offer an optional guided tour of Luxembourg. The City is a real mix of styles and cultures and a walking tour will explore the Place des Armes, Place de la Constitution, capital buildings, Corniche, old city, and the exterior of the Grand Ducal Palace. After lunch on board, you can take an optional winery visit to discover the secrets of winemaking while strolling through underground passages. Later you may like to stroll along the promenade or sit back on a cosy riverside terrace for some more wine. Tonight is the Ship's Farewell Gala Evening.

Day 8 - Friday

Enjoy breakfast aboard Lafayette before disembarking and driving to Calais for the Eurotunnel* crossing.

MS LAFAYETTE

 

Specially built for river cruising, this comfortable CroisiEurope ship is 295 feet long and 32 feet wide, and carries up to 82 passengers. She has panoramic windows, a large sundeck, dining room and lounge/bar area. The cabins are arranged over two decks and have television, air-conditioning, a bathroom with shower and toilet, towels, safe and 220V electricity.
