Our new Scottish tour, based in the World Heritage village of New Lanark, will take you to Edinburgh and Glasgow, with scenic excursions and a ride on the amazing Falkirk Wheel.

Day 1 - Sunday

Head north through Cumbria and the Scottish borders to arrive in New Lanark by the end of the afternoon.

Day 2 - Monday

We skirt Glasgow and follow the Clyde before taking a ferry to Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula. Here we visit Benmore Botanic Garden, a 120- acre garden surrounded by the dramatic mountain scenery of Argyllshire.

Day 3 - Tuesday

A free morning to explore the 18th-century mill village with its millworkers' houses, historic working machinery and the nearby 'Falls of Clyde' waterfall. We include an all-attraction ticket to the World Heritage Site. This afternoon we visit the unique Falkirk Wheel, built to commemorate the Millennium and as a link between the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals. We will spend time in the Visitor Centre and take a boat trip through the Wheel. Close by are The Kelpies, 30-metre high horse head steel sculptures, each weighing 300 tonnes. On a guided walking tour we will experience the breathtaking engineering and design of the Kelpies from the inside.

Day 4 - Wednesday

Today begins with a guided tour of Glasgow. From the comfort of the coach we will see some of the City's great Victorian buildings and monuments, Cathedral, museums and art galleries. This afternoon we drive to Balloch at the southern end of Loch Lomond for a one-hour circular cruise. Enjoy views of Ben Lomond and some of the Loch's 33 islands.

Day 5 - Thursday

We drive through the Pentland Hills and the centre of Edinburgh to Leith, following in the footsteps of Royalty as we board the Royal Yacht Britannia. We explore the famous ship with an audio guide, moving from the elegant State Apartments to the gleaming engine room. See where kings and queens, world leaders and celebrities were wined and dined. Later we take a cruise on the Firth of Forth with spectacular views of the Three Bridges, the Edinburgh skyline and Kingdom of Fife, and Inchcolm Island with its medieval abbey.

Day 6 - Friday

We make a stop in the 'wedding village' of Gretna Green before crossing the border and driving home, meeting taxis during the early evening.

NEW LANARK MILL HOTEL

 

An 18th Century cotton mill has been beautifully restored to create this 4-star hotel. Many of the original features of the mill have been retained, including the barrel-vaulted ceilings and Georgian sash-windows. The spacious bedrooms, some of which overlook the River Clyde, are reached by lift. A rooftop garden offers views of the River and Conservation Area. Facilities include a swimming pool, bubble pool and sauna.
